Focus on awards: Peter Wildy Prize

The Microbiology Society’s Peter Wildy Prize is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to microbiology education and/or communication in order to stimulate interest and understanding in the subject. This may include university teaching or education of the general public, school students or professional groups.

Dr Susan Assinder was the recipient of the Peter Wildly Prize in 2010. With 20 years’ experience lecturing in Molecular Genetics, she has gained extensive experience in quality assurance, quality enhancement, curriculum development and programme validation. Dr Assinder has made significant contributions specifically to the School of Biological Sciences at Bangor University, later in 2006 becoming the Director of the Academic Development Unit where she was responsible for delivering professional development in teaching and learning for academic staff, and skills-training for early career researchers.

Dr Assinder’s extensive knowledge in molecular microbiology, accompanied by her interest and experience in learning, teaching, professional development and public engagement, has demonstrated her exceptional contribution to microbiology education. For her contribution to publications for schools, postgraduate studies and self-directed learning, Dr Susan Assinder was awarded the Peter Wildy Prize.
