Science is Vital

Science is Vital

Science is Vital is a grassroots campaign of UK scientists and supporters of science who believe that a strong science base is vital to the UK’s economy and reputation.

Science is Vital is a grassroots campaign of UK scientists and supporters of science who believe that a strong science base is vital to the UK’s economy and reputation.

Formed in 2010 as a response to threatened government cuts to science, it now has a new campaign asking the government to modestly increase science funding in the budget for 2015-16 and beyond, decisions about which will be announced in June.

This campaign started on 11 March 2013, with a letter in the Daily Telegraph, signed by over 50 leading scientists in the UK, including Sir Paul Nurse and other Nobel laureates, Lord Martin Rees and Stephen Hawking, challenging the Government to set itself the target of investing at least 0.8% of GDP in science.
