The Microbiology Society is pleased to announce the world renowned speakers who have confirmed their participation at the Society’s Antimicrobial Resistance and One Health Focused Meeting, taking place between 29–30 August 2017 at Maynooth University, Co. Kildare, Ireland. This meeting will bring together microbiologists and government agencies from Ireland, the UK and further afield.

Speakers at the event include Professor Jo Handelsman, Director of Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and former Associate Director for Science at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Professor Fernando Baquero from the University of Ramón y Cajal University Hospital, Spain, a renowned microbiologist in the ecology and evolution of antibiotic resistance.

Dr Fidelma Fitzpatrick from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Beaumont Hospital, Ireland, will explain the current situation in the human health aspects of antimicrobial resistance, while Dr Eva Reinhard from the Federal Office for Agriculture FOAG, Switzerland, will provide an overview of how the Swiss Government has created a strategy for antimicrobial resistance from a One Health perspective. Delegates to this meeting will gain an overview of the concept of antimicrobial resistance from the three pillars of One Health: human, animal and environmental health. The event will explore the common theme of resistance in bacteria and fungi to the available agents across different disciplines of microbiology.

The abstract submission deadline from the meeting is fast approaching and closes at 23:59 on Sunday 25 June, therefore we invite you to send in your work as soon as possible to avoid missing out on the opportunity to present your research. Submissions are welcome for consideration from both members and non-members as an oral or poster presentations.
