Join us for lunchtime events at Annual Conference

Conference lunch events

At our Annual Conference last year, the Microbiology Society launched a series of lunchtime events to help delegates network and socialise. For our 2017 event, we are bringing back our popular Live at Lunch sessions, but will also be introducing new flash poster presentations to highlight some of the great research being displayed at Conference. Our 2016 Antibiotics Unearthed School Partnership and Undergraduate Programme participants will also be presenting their hard work.

Live at Lunch will be taking place in the Lammermuir Suite Level -2, Monday to Wednesday from 13:15, giving you a chance to pick up some food before you join in. Monday and Tuesday’s Live at Lunches will focus on career networking, offering attendees the opportunity to have an informal chat over lunch with the speakers from the professional development sessions, including Dr Sarah Blackford on Monday and Journal of Medical Microbiology Section Editors Dr Norman Fry and Dr Kalai Mathee on Tuesday. Wednesday’s interactive session, run by JMM Case Reports Co-Editors-in-Chief Dr Johannes Kusters and Dr Robert Hall, will provide delegates with a chance to discuss the details of a mycology case study.

In a new addition for Annual Conference, we will be showcasing some of our best posters – selected in advance by session organisers – at the Society’s stand from 13:30 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. These flash presentations will pack in lots of science in only a few minutes, so come along and support your friends and colleagues.

Some of the school and undergraduate students who took part in our 2016 run of Antibiotics Unearthed programmes have been invited to present a poster about their projects at Annual Conference 2017. This showcase will take place during the full lunch hour on Monday. Please pop by and give them a warm welcome as for some of them, especially the secondary school students, this will be their first experience of an international scientific conference.

As well as the Antibiotics Unearthed posters, conference delegates can also view our extensive selection of posters and chat to their presenters during lunch across all four days, and at the evening drinks receptions from Monday to Wednesday. With 600 posters on show, you may find someone to join your lab, someone to collaborate with, or perhaps someone working on the same subject you can share notes with.

All of these are included in the registration rate, and if you book before Thursday 16 March, you can still take advantage of early bird prices. Register and view the full, regularly updated programme on the Annual Conference 2017’s webpage.
