Education & Outreach

The Microbiology Society is committed to supporting and encouraging the teaching and learning of microbiology at all levels.

We offer grants to support microbiology teaching initiatives, events and prizes to encourage excellence in the study of microbiology by undergraduate students. Funds are also available for members keen to run and participate in microbiology-related outreach activities.

Each year we award the Microbiology Outreach Prize to a microbiologist who has engaged in high-quality outreach activities during the last 2–5 years. Nominations for the 2016 Microbiology Outreach Prize are now open. See the Microbiology Outreach Prize page for details.

Educators involved in university teaching or education of the general public, school pupils or professional groups may also be eligible for consideration for the Peter Wildy Prize Lecture.

Members may be eligible for a Travel Grant (see below) to support the presentation of their pedagogic research at a conference in the UK or overseas.

Enquiries about these schemes should be made by email to the Grants Office or by phone (+44 (0)20 7685 2698).

Applications should be submitted by email, giving the grant name in the subject line.
